Eastbourne has not announced its 2026 switch-on date. It has been the last Saturday in November two years running, which points at 28 November.

Eastbourne has not announced a date for its 2026 Christmas lights switch-on. Visit Eastbourne’s listing for the event is still the 2025 one and is marked as passed, the councils’ site carries nothing, and no 2026 release has gone out. We checked all three on 6 September 2026.

What the record does support is a strong pattern. The switch-on has landed on the last Saturday in November for the last two years: Saturday 30 November 2024 and Saturday 29 November 2025. If that holds, 2026 is Saturday 28 November. Treat that as an expectation to plan around rather than a date to book time off for, and check back here in late October, which is when the programme has been published in past years.

Where it happens

Terminus Road, in the pedestrian precinct, with the countdown at Bankers Corner. That has not moved in years, and the postcode on the listing is BN21 3NE. Two sources give slightly different opening times for the same 2025 day, and both are worth knowing. Visit Eastbourne’s listing says the Christmas market was in place from 9am. Eastbourne News reported the event itself as running 12pm to 7pm along Terminus Road. The sensible reading is that the stalls opened first and the stage programme started at noon.

The Christmas market

The market is part of the switch-on day rather than a separate multi-day event, which is the thing most people get wrong when they search for an Eastbourne Christmas market. In 2025 it ran on Terminus Road with more than 40 stalls, selling festive food and drink, handmade crafts, Christmas gifts and local produce.

If you are looking for a market that runs for weeks, Eastbourne does not have one. It has one very busy Saturday.

What else happens on the night

The unveiling of the Panto Christmas Light has been a fixture of the build-up, immediately before the main switch-on. It ties the evening to the Devonshire Park Theatre pantomime, which in 2026 is Cinderella, running from 11 December 2026 to 17 January 2027.

The 2025 event was sponsored by Lightning Fibre and Your Eastbourne. The high-street displays and the LED Christmas tree are funded by local businesses through the Your Eastbourne BID, whose operations manager was quoted thanking stallholders after the 2024 event. Sponsors and the BID are worth watching, because they tend to announce the date before the listings sites do.

Getting there and parking

Terminus Road is the town’s main shopping street and the closest car parks fill early on a switch-on Saturday. The cost gap in Eastbourne is wide enough to be worth a short walk: two hours at Devonshire Park is £2.10 against £7.05 for two hours in a central on-street bay. Hyde Gardens is free on Sundays but the switch-on has always been a Saturday, so it will be charging. Full tariffs and the free bays are on our parking in Eastbourne page.

Eastbourne station is a five minute walk from Bankers Corner, which for an evening event that finishes at 7pm is usually the easier option.
